About the Event
These electrodes consists of paste (a mixture of calcined anthracite/petroleum coke and coal tar pitch) that eventually gets baked—a temperature-driven process. With increase in the electrode size and current supplied, safe operation of the electrode requires models that can predict the conditions experienced during operation.
In NextGenSøderberg project, together with Eramet, we developed a novel pragmatic model for Søderberg electrodes. The model considers the relevant physics along with variations in the operating procedures of these electrodes to predict the evolution of temperature distribution, baking zone position and thermal stresses.
